Poe Bust by thebiscuitboy Poe Bust by thebiscuitboy
I came across a plaster bust of Chopin in a charity shop a few months back. I've nothing against Chopin particularly, but I thought that it might be an interesting project to remodel the sculpture into a great artist who holds some personal significance to me. Poe seemed an obvious choice (though, physically he bears no resemblance to Chopin at all!) so I modified Chopin's features into those of the creator of ‘The Raven’ and ‘Murders in the Rue Morgue’
Interestingly, While researching costume details I discovered that Poe and Chopin were almost exact contempories; Chopin 1810-1849, Poe 1809-1849.
Spooky huh?

I am an admirer of both.  It is a sad fact that both died in the same year, 1849:  Poe, on October 7th; Chopin, on October 17th.  If I am correct, Chopin succumbed to tuberculosis--a disease not unfamiliar to Poe.

What you have done, here, is remarkable in that it depicts a Poe seldom seen.  There are other "true" busts of Poe, granted, but few have the impact upon the senses as does this "faux" creation.  If it were cast either in bronze or marble, it would be a masterpiece.  Thank you for the stirring image of the tragic poet.

I may have misused the term "faux"; I believe that "modified" would be better.  If this is a bust which you have created, then it cannot be considered faux.  Please forgive me if I have offended you, for that was not my intent.

That is such a creative way to use a thrifted item!  And it looks great, too. I am also quite partial to Poe :)
